UK Warship Stops in Eastern Mediterranean for Maintenance, Resupply

(MENAFN) The UK warship HMS Dragon has docked temporarily in the eastern Mediterranean for maintenance and resupply, while remaining fully prepared for rapid deployment, according to reports.

The vessel had been sent from the United Kingdom to help protect British air bases in the Greek Cypriot Administration following the outbreak of hostilities involving the US, Israel, and Iran.

Officials emphasized that the ship continues to operate at a “very high level of readiness” and could “sail at short notice if required.”

A Defense Ministry spokesperson described the docking as a “routine logistics stop” to allow the destroyer to take on supplies, optimize its systems, and complete essential maintenance.

He added: "The UK continues to maintain a robust and layered defensive presence in the eastern Mediterranean, working in co-ordination with allies. This includes Typhoon and F-35 jets, Wildcat and Merlin helicopters, and advanced counter-drone and air defense systems."

Regional tensions have intensified since February 28, when joint US and Israeli operations against Iran resulted in over 1,400 casualties, including the reported death of Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Tehran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US forces, causing damage to infrastructure, civilian casualties, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
