Turkish Cypriot, Greek Cypriot Leaders Hold UN-Brokered Meeting
The closed-door session, hosted at the residence of UN Secretary-General's Special Representative in Cyprus, Khassim Diagne, ran approximately 90 minutes and unfolded in a "positive atmosphere," according to a UN statement.
TRNC President Tufan Erhurman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Hristodulidis held a "fruitful discussion," the UN said, exchanging views on substantive issues and deliberating on the path forward in the Cyprus process.
Both leaders expressed their appreciation for the UN secretary-general's sustained engagement on the Cyprus issue and reaffirmed their commitment to backing his ongoing efforts, the statement added.
In what may prove the most concrete outcome of the encounter, Erhurman and Hristodulidis agreed to reconvene before the end of April, with the stated goal of making more specific announcements at that stage.
No joint press statement was released in the wake of the meeting.
